The Great Outdoors

With the half term break fast approaching and the sun finally making an appearance, we thought we’d share with you some of the activities the children have been enjoying outside.

We’ve secured an area of church gardens for the children to play in and here they are making the most of the freedom and glorious sunshine!

We’ve been working together on our gardening, planting tomatoes, beans and herbs and watering them to help them grow.

And there’s nothing better on a sunny day than settling down to read a good book.

Spring Term 2018

Today marks the end of our Spring Term and what a term it has been! We’ve faced arctic conditions and enjoyed sunny days in the garden, all in a matter of weeks.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Easter Bonnet Parade this morning, it was great to see so many of you there, and the children did a fantastic job making their bonnets and performing their spring songs.

Here’s a little more of what the children have been up to this term…

Pancake Day
The children had great fun on Pancake Day learning to make their own pancakes. They cracked the eggs and whisked the mixture, then topped the cooked pancakes with fruit and a little honey, and of course enjoyed eating the finished product at the end. All the while they were practising their fine motor skills, communication and social skills while waiting for their turns and working together with friends.

Our Garden
Whilst the snowy conditions this term took all of us by surprise, there have also been some lovely sunny days for the children to go outside and explore the garden. And there are so many opportunities for learning through play out there, including reading books together, practising counting skills and discovering what marks they can make with paintbrushes and water on the chalkboard. The children have also learnt about the world around them through close encounters with the insects and animals that also inhabit the space.

Learning about the Dentist
This term the children also learnt about going to the dentist, including role playing games where the children took it in turns to play the dentist, patient and receptionist. They used a mirror to check their friends’ teeth and got up close to a large set of plastic teeth that were used to practise brushing. We also talked about about which foods helped their teeth stay healthy, the importance of brushing, and the children were challenged to brush their teeth morning and night for a week to receive a certificate.

We look forward to seeing you all for the Summer term which starts on Monday 16th April. We have lots more exciting things planned for the children, including a sponsored Toddlerthon to raise money for Barnardo’s and our annual summer playtime and picnic in the park!
